July 25th is National Wine and Cheese Day. If you needed a reason to drink wine on Monday, then this is it (haha)...

Much like peanut butter and jelly, wine and cheese are the best of friends.  And speaking of friends, gather up your besties for a wine & cheese party.  Ask everyone bring a bottle of wine and cheese to share then get ready to have fun exploring the pairings. There are endless combinations to explore, but if you’re not the adventurous type or need a little help getting started we have listed several of our tried-and-true pairings that will make you look like a true wine aficionado at your next gathering. 

Vineyard Vixen’s Quick Cheese Pairing Guide

Sauvignon Blan + Goat Cheese

Bubbles + Triple Cream Brie (yes, triple cream)

Rosé + Havarti

Pinot Noir + Gruyere

Cabernet Sauvignon + Aged Cheddar

Did you know the most popular cheese recipe in the United States is Macaroni & Cheese? Apparently, we just can’t enough of that ooey gooey pasta dish.  One of our favorite versions is Baked Mac and Cheese from Recipe Tin Eats.  This one is a far cry from that boxed orange stuff you ate as a kid. This rich dish seriously delivers in the flavor department and makes A LOT so it's perfect for a casual dinner party

Cheese is good for your dental health.  People who consume cheese regularly tend to have fewer tooth cavities. This is likely due to the high calcium levels which helps protect against decay.

Wallace & Gromit saved Wensleydale cheese (this one’s for you Robin).   It’s true, Wensleydale was about to vanish from the cheese world, but the two unsung heros, from the stop-motion animation, “Wallace and Gromit” truly saved the day.  Through the character’s obsession with this particular cheese, Wensleydale went from near cheese extension to becoming one of the most popular cheeses in the world today.

All Parmesan cheese is still made by a single family.  Yes, this distinctive cheese that we pile on all our Italian favorites is very much a family tradition.  Parmigiano Reggiano (the proper name) is not produced in a factory and has been made by hand generation after generation of the same family for nearly 900 years.
