Eco-Friendly Wine Country Road Trip
Power up your electric vehicle and take a scenic cruise to wine country...
Electric vehicles (EV) are popping up just about everywhere you go these days. It’s true, EVs are the wave of the future and with many states planning to phase out gas powered vehicles and California vowing to only allow the sale of zero-emissions vehicles by 2035 there is no doubt EVs will become common in parking lots and garages near you. There is a lot of benefit of these futuristic contraptions the most obvious being no need for gas, oil, and the related maintenance. EVs provide instant power for those who seek the thrill behind the wheel, EVs are super quiet, and you get so much more cargo space since there’s no bulky engine. So, what is one to do with all that extra space? We couldn’t help but think of how much more wine one could transport home.
Of course, even as EVs gain popularity the infrastructure of charging stations is still lagging. That’s not to say you can’t road trip in your EV, you absolutely can, but you’ll want to research and plan your trip ahead of time. Lucky for you, we have curated a collection of wineries and hotels that are equipped with charging stations to make visiting wine country in your EV a pleasurable experience.
If you are into eco-tourism or eco-friendly destinations to visit, wine country should definitely top your list. Wine regions have come a long way from their humble beginnings of serving wine on a barrel in a barn or cellar usually poured by the vintner personally. Over the past 50 years wine regions have gained popularity, becoming some of the most in-demand vacation destinations in the United States. At it's core wine is simply a farming product and while it is easy to get caught up in the opulence and luxury of it all, winery owners are stewards of the land dedicated to the health and sustainability of their vineyards and the surrounding environment.
Today, some of the most exquisite estates, like HALL St. Helena and CADE Estate Winery which are both LEED certified are thoughtfully designed using green building practices and boast masterfully designed gardens and grounds that maintain soil health, attract beneficial insects, provide habitats for wildlife, and generally support the local ecosystem.
