Cabernet Dreaming Napa Valley
Cabernet Sauvignon is perhaps the most wintery of wines. Maybe because of the heavy tannins, a classic Cabernet characteristic, that wrap around your tastebuds like a warm overcoat along with baking spice notes of clove and cinnamon make this wine and ideal companion for nights by a crackling fire.
Cabernet Sauvignon and other bold red blends are traditionally served at a slightly warmer temperature (about 55 degrees) and often have higher alcohol content which make them an obvious choice when the weather gets chilly. Plus, there is no denying that crisp winter days beckon for the comforting warmth of hearty meals like decadent pasta or rich meaty braises for which Cabernet Sauvignon is a well suited pairing. I don’t know about you, but when the temps dip low suddenly a cold salad loses its appeal. Hmmm, maybe that’s just me??
January is probably not the top month of the year that screams “let’s go to wine country”, however, you might be surprised to discover this is truly a fantastic time to visit. Napa Valley of course, stands out as an iconic destination for Cabernet Sauvignon. Naturally, this region is jammed packed with tourists starting late spring through November.
Come January, however, you can enjoy a more relaxed visit with no crowds and virtually zero traffic along the main roads through the valley. Even better are the incredible lodging deals to take advantage of to elevate your Napa Valley experience.
Hotel Yountville Resort & Spa
One of my favorite destinations for a luxe Napa Valley getaway, is the Hotel Yountville with elegant rooms and suites that do not disappoint. You can start your day at the onsite restaurant, Heritage Oak which is one of the best breakfast spots in the valley. After you’ve had your fill of Cabernet, soak the day away in their idyllic pool and hot tub. Explore seasonal offers for this luxurious boutique and soon you’ll be living your Cabernet dream.
Mud Bath at Indian Springs Calistoga
If you’ve toyed with the idea of experiencing the regions famous mud baths, winter is the best time to do this wellness treatment. The warm thick mineral rich mud will cocoon your body in a state of zero gravity relieving stress and tension. While the gentle heat sourced from the natural geothermal waters deeply warms your body aiding with detoxifying and soothing mild aches and pains. Trust me, a mud bath on a 101-degree summer day is a hard NO!
If you’re ready to take the “plunge” then the best place to go is Indian Springs Resort & Spa in Calistoga. Indian Springs is a destination all its own, located on 17 stunning acres exquisitely manicured with lush gardens, meditation areas, reflection pond, and most notably an all-natural Olympic size geothermal mineral pool. Visit their website to view their winter specials and get ready for ultimate bliss.

Did I mention the food? Cabernet was born to be paired with food and now is the time to indulge in all the culinary bounty that Napa Valley has to offer. Enjoying exclusive curated menus, deals and epicurean meals for a dining experience like no other. Be wise and book reservations as tables fill quickly during this most beloved time.
Immerse yourself in the essence of Cabernet this season and be dazzled by a Napa Valley experience that is sure to linger on your palate and in your memories for years to come. Here's to the richness of Cabernet Sauvignon! Cheers!
