Event Information

Hillary Sjolund began her career in wine at UC Davis in 1998. She fell in love with the culture of wine, learning that winemaking intricately unites her passion for science with the creativity of art. While still attending UC Davis, Hillary landed an internship at Pine Ridge Winery in Napa, CA in the fall of 2000. She began as a laboratory technician, completing three vintages with Pine Ridge. After graduation Hillary worked a harvest abroad in Chile. Hillary was promoted to assistant winemaker at Pine Ridge, working another three vintages until 2006.
She relocated to Washington to take the position of head winemaker of DiStefano Winery in Woodinville, WA. For the next four years, under her winemaking leadership, Wine Spectator awarded multiple 90+ scores, and in 2008 DiStefano received Wine Press Northwest ‘Winery of the Year’.
2011 was a year of change for Sjolund, taking a job as Associate Winemaker under the wing of Washington icon Charlie Hoppes at his Wine Boss custom crush facility in Richland, WA. This move allowed her to open her own commercial wine laboratory Enomama and launch her own label Sonoris Wines. With the lab, Hillary provided technical and analytical information to winemakers and vineyard managers. Although Enomama was sold in 2016, Hillary continues to oversee laboratory operations. She is responsible for fermentation management of 55,000 cases of wine annually, representing over 20 brands.
Sonoris Wines gives Sjolund an opportunity for her own expression of Washington wines. She crafts wines that are technically balanced and uniquely expressive. Her relationships grant her access to the best vineyards in Washington. Her acute sensory focus on aroma and flavor shows through, from her vineyard selection to winemaking style.  As you taste through the portfolio, you will find that original love of blending science and art in the final product of these bold Washington wines.
The inspiration for the Sonoris brand originates from a strong family bond. The name is derived from the Latin term Sonorous ‘to resonate.’
