Taste of Harvest - Spooktacular Events

And just like that, the calendar flips to October. How can that be? Weren't we just basking in the summer sun, splashing in cool water, and sipping bright summery wines? Ok, perhaps our family was doing that exact thing just last week. Oh, how quickly the seasons change and while there may still be plenty of warm sunny days ahead where you live, many of us are experiencing true fall weather with cooler temps, rainy days and perhaps even the first snow. In wine country, the scent of harvest begins to permeate the air with an unmistakable blend that is both musty and pungent. This is the signature fragrance of winemaking a result of the fermentation process and is most noticeable during the morning hours in October and November.

For me the scent of harvest immediately puts me in a very fall mood. Queue the pumpkins, bushels of mums on the front porch, and let's not forget the apple & cinnamon candles to fill your home with warm autumnal spices. This week, I tried something a little different and made my own blend of spices and botanicals which I simmered on the stove top. With just a few items from the pantry, an orange and some freshly clipped evergreen sprigs then slowly simmered the most wonderful aromas filled our home. The result was incredible. I promise to update our blog with all the details soon.

Of course, with all this talk of fall I can't help but think about Halloween. I know, I know! October has just begun and here I am fast forwarding to the end. Fret not, there are so many days ahead to savor the delights of the season and so many festive, fun events to enjoy... some that are kid friendly too.
