Bainbridge Island Wine Secrets

Take a day chillaxing island style while you sip your way about the beautiful city of Bainbridge Island.

Living in the PNW is bountiful and not only do we have four seasons, mountains, bay views and ocean shores we also have some of the most beautiful wine producers living here in the shadow of the Space Needle.  Across from the hustle of the Seattle downtown corridor is Bainbridge Island.  Easiest way to access it is to take the Seattle à Bainbridge ferry run which operates multiple times a day.  The schedule changes based on the season so being prepared beforehand is highly recommended.

While you can walk or ride your bike on the ferry, I’ll admit I like to take my car.  It provides me with the freedom to go anywhere I want.  And as an avid wanderer, I’m always seeking out the off the beaten path joints that surprise and delight.  With more than 8 tasting rooms and wine bars on the island, here are a few hidden gems.

Places like Earth and Vine Wine Bar in the Pleasant Beach Village on the southside of the island.  Just under 4 miles from the ferry terminal, it’s the neighborhood wine bar where locals know that half off bottle nights are on Tuesday’s and the best local live music is on the weekends If vino isn’t your thing, The Marketplace located in the village has a tap room and coffeehouse too.

Another favorite hidden treasure on the island is Rolling Bay Winery.  A small artisan winery located north of the ferry terminal on the east shore, with varietals produced from old vines planted in 1979.  My favorite quote from Alphonse de Klerk their head winemaker is, “Hobbies become obsessions. Obsessions become destinies”.  Their story is fascinating, and their handcrafted wines have been rewarded and recognized with multiple medals.  Tastings are by appointment only so be sure to see when their doors are open to the public.  This is not a drop in anytime kind of place.

Last but not least is Eleven Winery known for its approachable wines for any occasion.  You can visit the tasting room in the heart of downtown on Winslow Way or if you’ve got wheels you can head on over to the winery for a more intimate setting including outdoor concerts and cool events like their Salish Sea Greens Oyster Pop Up Bar.
