About Stags' Leap Winery

Located at the very heart of the Stags Leap District, 7 miles north of Napa, lies the century-old wine estate known as Stags' Leap: a place of natural beauty, storied buildings and gardens, a lively history, and a reputation for elegant wines.

The original Stags' Leap Winery (established in 1893) continues a proud winemaking heritage in the prestigious appellation that bears the winery name. Framed by the dramatic palisades to the east, the 240-acre property is planted to 90 acres of vineyards and divided into 23 blocks that perfectly match each grape variety with its ideal soil type. Located off a long, private road, the property is renowned for its landmark nineteenth-century stone winery and Victorian-era Manor House. As one of California’s earliest wine estates, its unique terroir, ideal microclimate, and tradition of stewardship supports a classical standard of viticulture, land use, and winemaking that is relevant today as it was over a century ago. We invite you to make a reservation and visit this magical place with its beautiful grounds and stylish wines, including the award-winning field blend, Ne Cede Malis, and opulent “The Leap” and “Audentia” Cabernet Sauvignons. We are open by appointment only and are unable to accommodate drop in guests due to traffic restrictions on our private road.

Absolutely beautiful property, home and surrounding views. Was expecting more discussion on wines vs the history of the winery. Was disappointed when my "clean" tasting wine glass had lipstick on it (I am a male and don't wear lipstick). Had to ask for another clean glass. Another observation that was disappointing and somewhat strange was the wine provided in the "speak easy" was open and we

My wife and I booked a tour last minute. The agent was very accommodating and, although there were no available spots over the next few days, took our info and called us when someone cancelled. The property was beyond charming. It was very serene, picturesque and elegant. The tour guide was pleasant and knowledgeable, and the tour went at a pace that made us feel like houseguests.

Like other people attending our tour, we thought that this winery was the more well known Stag's Leap Cellars. This confusion led to a lot of disappointment. Although our guide was very pleasant, the majority of the tour was spent talking about the house and previous owners. The wine itself was pretty mediocre and expensive. This tour did not meet the standards held by other wineries.

Stags' Leap is an amazing property with wine to match! You taste approximately 5-7 wines throughout the experience and most are purchase worthy depending on your palate. However, having the right host from the winery is crucial to a fun and memorable experience. We've had both good and bad so I'd see if you could request the kind of experience/personality that best suits your group.

There was a problem with the staff and our tour started late. Our tour director was dealing with some kind of problem. There was no effort by the other staff to welcome us while we waited. At the end of the tour and tasting, the tour guide was a bit forceful with her sales pitch.

Be sure to double check that reservation is with Stags' Leap and not Stag's Leap. Looks like the same name, but two different places. It was interesting to learn the history of the house & property and what it did to survive Prohibition.

My friend and I had a wonderful time. We enjoyed hearing the history of the winery, walking around the grounds sipping wine as we went along, and sitting down at the lovely dining room table at the end. Our guide, Mary, was warm, welcoming, knowledgeable, and gracious. Can't wait to come back again.

I was excited to visit Stags' Leap as a wine club member. The property itself is gorgeous however I was not excited about the tour. We were provided a 40 min history lesson of the property with a tiny pour of wine (maybe 1 oz). When I asked our guide if we could keep the tour within the 90 min allotted time we had planned for she was not happy with me.

Felt like a complete waste of time and money: - Boring and extremely trivial history lesson: Do your guests really care about the agave plants that were planted by Mrs. Grange? - Rude host: Wasn't this supposed to be fun? I did not appreciate being shhhh-ed in the middle of the conversation with my friends. - Impersonal compared to 3 other wineries we visited during the day

Our tour guide was new at giving the tours and used cards to convey the history. Due to her inexperience, she was very tense and not relaxed. We had a very good group of folks from all over and a bit of fun should be had with the guide. My advise is she incorporate some "personality" and fun into the tour and loosen up. Everyone there was in vacation mode so no need to be tense. Beautiful grounds

Stags' Leap Winery aims to provide a tour of the history of Stags' Leap rather than a tour of the wine making process. If you are interested in seeing the grounds as well as learning about the storied tales of the brand, this is your kind of tour.

Stags' Leap Winery is a private/boutique-type winery down a long windy path. It was interesting to understand the history and the battle of the apostrophes with Stag's Leap Cellars. Unfortunately it was raining when we arrived which meant the '90 minute walking tour' became a 45min tasting in the manor. Albeit still very beautiful inside, not sure if it was worth USD70.

NOT the famous Stag's leap wine cellar that won the famous blind tasting in France. This is Stags' leap, not Stag's leap...note the apostrophe difference. They are in the same AVA region but very different wines. That being said, it is an interesting place to visit with friendly staff and good wine but NOT the place I travelled half way around the world to visit. That was not clear and no refunds
