About Stags' Leap Winery

Located at the very heart of the Stags Leap District, 7 miles north of Napa, lies the century-old wine estate known as Stags' Leap: a place of natural beauty, storied buildings and gardens, a lively history, and a reputation for elegant wines.

The original Stags' Leap Winery (established in 1893) continues a proud winemaking heritage in the prestigious appellation that bears the winery name. Framed by the dramatic palisades to the east, the 240-acre property is planted to 90 acres of vineyards and divided into 23 blocks that perfectly match each grape variety with its ideal soil type. Located off a long, private road, the property is renowned for its landmark nineteenth-century stone winery and Victorian-era Manor House. As one of California’s earliest wine estates, its unique terroir, ideal microclimate, and tradition of stewardship supports a classical standard of viticulture, land use, and winemaking that is relevant today as it was over a century ago. We invite you to make a reservation and visit this magical place with its beautiful grounds and stylish wines, including the award-winning field blend, Ne Cede Malis, and opulent “The Leap” and “Audentia” Cabernet Sauvignons. We are open by appointment only and are unable to accommodate drop in guests due to traffic restrictions on our private road.

I was excited to visit Stags' Leap as a wine club member. The property itself is gorgeous however I was not excited about the tour. We were provided a 40 min history lesson of the property with a tiny pour of wine (maybe 1 oz). When I asked our guide if we could keep the tour within the 90 min allotted time we had planned for she was not happy with me.

Felt like a complete waste of time and money: - Boring and extremely trivial history lesson: Do your guests really care about the agave plants that were planted by Mrs. Grange? - Rude host: Wasn't this supposed to be fun? I did not appreciate being shhhh-ed in the middle of the conversation with my friends. - Impersonal compared to 3 other wineries we visited during the day

Our tour guide was new at giving the tours and used cards to convey the history. Due to her inexperience, she was very tense and not relaxed. We had a very good group of folks from all over and a bit of fun should be had with the guide. My advise is she incorporate some "personality" and fun into the tour and loosen up. Everyone there was in vacation mode so no need to be tense. Beautiful grounds

Stags' Leap Winery aims to provide a tour of the history of Stags' Leap rather than a tour of the wine making process. If you are interested in seeing the grounds as well as learning about the storied tales of the brand, this is your kind of tour.

The whole experience was amazing. The grounds were pristine, the tour was very informative but not stuffy, and the wine was excellent. We visited many of the high-end wineries and the experience at Stags' Leap was the best. We will definitely be going back the next time we are in Napa.

Upon arrival the scenery was beautiful! The porch, everything. Our tasting guide was amazing, he knew all of the history and was easy to listen to. The wines, were all so good. Unfortunately being from Alabama we could not ship but did get ourselves a bottle and coaster. Wish we could have shipped! Overall best experience!!

Stags' Leap Winery is a private/boutique-type winery down a long windy path. It was interesting to understand the history and the battle of the apostrophes with Stag's Leap Cellars. Unfortunately it was raining when we arrived which meant the '90 minute walking tour' became a 45min tasting in the manor. Albeit still very beautiful inside, not sure if it was worth USD70.

NOT the famous Stag's leap wine cellar that won the famous blind tasting in France. This is Stags' leap, not Stag's leap...note the apostrophe difference. They are in the same AVA region but very different wines. That being said, it is an interesting place to visit with friendly staff and good wine but NOT the place I travelled half way around the world to visit. That was not clear and no refunds

VERY confusing difference between Stag's Leap and Stags' Leap Wineries! (NOTE the different placement of the apostrophe. ) Wines were minimally OK and the tasting VERY expensive. House was nice, but the overall tasting experience is NOT recommended.

The Stags' Leap Vineyard/Winery is one of the most picturesque and historical in all of Napa. It is worth a visit to hear the story. However, the behind the scenes workings are the exact opposite of what I wanted from the visit. The winery is corporate owned and it shows. The hospitality workers were also some of the worst that I have experienced in all of my many visits to Napa.

From the drive through the Walnut trees; to the legendary history; to the final taste of Ne Cede Malis, our experience was a complete delight that totally exceeded our expectations. Our guide, Bonnie, was outstanding! Truth be told, however, you had me in 1982 when I splurged to buy my first Stags' Leap Petite Sirah.

We booked Stags' Leap Winery instead of Stag's Leap Wine Cellars like we intended. It was very disappointing but it was too late to change so we went anyway. We were pleasantly surprised!! The tour explained the reason for the billion dollar apostrophe as well as the very interesting 126 year history of the manor and the wines were delicious! We joined the club and cant wait to be back!

Our tour guide, Andy, was very knowledgeable on the wines and winery itself; he did a great job of being inclusive and informative on all aspects of the tour. It was very enjoyable to get to see around the grounds and get that touch of historical background on the winery and family. Bonus, the wines we tried were AMAZING. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone going to Napa Valley!

Was very disappointed that the underground cellar was going through construction, therefore we were not able to see it. We did not see this information represented on the website prior to purchasing tickets. We should not have been charged the full $70 since we didn't get the full tour. My tour guide also dropped a bottle of wine next to me and it spilled on my shoes & legs.
